About Me

Welcome to Words by Romy. I'm honored that you're here.

From what my hazy childhood memory can afford me, my journey as a poet began in 8th grade Honors Language Arts, where we were assigned to craft sentences each Wednesday out of our new weekly vocab words, and post them on the whiteboard. My pre-teen response was to write poetic phrases about humanity, heartbreak and the depth of souls, which quickly earned the attention and mimicry from fellow hormonal and existential peers, and became a coined practice. My teacher renamed the assignment "Romy Sentences," and the rest is history. Here you'll find the work I'm curating in my Writing Capstone course at the University of Michigan, now exploring my own story in poetry through the lens of mental health, overcoming darkness and creating light. I hope you find solace, if not enjoyment, in this adulthood poetry edition of Romy Sentences.
